What each warning sign means

Burning smells or hot outlets

A burning smell or an outlet that feels hot means something in the wiring is overheating. Stop using it and call us: we find the cause and repair it before it becomes a fire risk.

Damaged or frayed wires

Wires with damaged or frayed insulation can short and spark. We find the damaged run and repair or replace it safely and to code.

Loose connections

A loose connection at an outlet, switch or splice can cause flickering lights and heat. We track it down and make it tight and secure again.

Outdated aluminum wiring

Outdated aluminum wiring in older homes can overheat at its connections. We assess it and work with you on a safe upgrade. Read our aluminum wiring guide.

Frequent breaker trips

A breaker that trips again and again is telling you a circuit has a problem. We find out why. See breaker trips for more.

Overloaded circuits

Too much on one circuit makes the wiring work harder than it should. We rebalance the load or add what your home needs, up to a panel change if the old one can't keep up.

Faulty wiring questions

What are the signs of faulty wiring in a house?

Burning smells or hot outlets, damaged or frayed wires, loose connections, outdated aluminum wiring, frequent breaker trips and overloaded circuits. Flickering lights are another. If you notice any of them, call us to have your wiring assessed.

Is aluminum wiring dangerous?

Outdated aluminum wiring is one of the warning signs we look for, because its connections can overheat. It doesn't have to mean trouble today, but have a licensed electrician assess it and recommend a safe upgrade.

Do I need to rewire my whole house?

Not always. Many wiring problems come down to one damaged run, a loose connection or an overloaded circuit. We diagnose first and give you a clear quote, and work with you on the right solution. For bigger jobs see remodels.

Why do my lights flicker?

Flickering lights can come from a loose connection, an overloaded circuit or other wiring issues that put your home at risk. Call 817-677-0036 and we'll find the cause and repair it.
